Introduction to MV Mediation Center and the Local Consumer Program -
MV Mediation is one of the state's Community Mediation Centers. Besides offering mediation, conflict coaching, facilitation services and courses, MV Mediation offers the Local Consumer Program, providing advocacy and information to our community to raise awareness about consumer rights and education. Their goal is to provide our community by providing education, outreach, mediation, conflict coaching, facilitation and related services to help prevent and resolve conflicts.
The Martha’s Vineyard Mediation Program, Inc., was founded as The Martha’s Vineyard Center for Dispute Resolution in 1984 by Dukes County Judge Herbert Tucker and Clerk Magistrate Thomas Teller. The Program was known as the Edgartown District Court Mediation Program and modeled after the Urban Mediation Project in Dorchester, Massachusetts. Originally the program was court-based, limited to cases referred by the Dukes County District Court. In 1990, the Program expanded to accept cases from the community and became a 501(c)3 not-for-profit.
There will also be information shared on the Martha’s Vineyard and Nantucket Local Consumer Program, a statewide network of agencies working together in cooperation with the Massachusetts Attorney General’s Office
