Songkran
The Songkran festival is a celebration of the New Year in accordance with the solar calendar.
Songkran, originating from the Sanskrit word “Sankranti,” means “move” or “change.” This festival signifies moving into a new year with a fresh start. It’s traditionally celebrated with water, symbolizing cleansing and renewal. People gather to pour water over Buddha statues, elders, and each other, washing away any misfortunes from the previous year and welcoming blessings for the new one. It’s an incredibly meaningful gesture and one that truly embodies the Thai spirit of unity, gratitude, and respect.
As it has become a tradition here at the Tiz COA, Pissamai Silarak and Daniel Dyer will perform this yearly ritual dance for us! Join the audience for the 11:15AM dance.
